The Big Bank Switch

The UK’s big banks are financing companies that are fuelling the climate crisis and harming nature.
Switch to a greener bank with the Big Bank Switch and you’ll join a growing movement of Christians taking action with their finances to care for God’s creation.
Make your Big Bank Switch Pledge! Explore greener options for your current account, and start your switch today.
*Why make a pledge? There is power in numbers. Your pledge will be counted as part of our collective call for change. You can then make the switch at a time convenient for you.
Not sure if your bank is green? Use Bank.Green’s tool to check.

The Big Bank Switch is coordinated by JustMoney Movement, Operation Noah, Just Love and Laudato Si’ Movement.

Don’t forget to tell your old bank why you are leaving! Use this template letter to contact them.
The Co-operative Bank has a strong Ethical Policy which includes not financing the exploration, extraction or production of fossil fuels.
The bank holds the Which? Eco Provider badge.
Triodos Bank doesn’t fund fossil fuels, and focuses on financing positive impact. Part of the Global Alliance for Banking on Values.

October 2025 update: We have previously included Nationwide as a fossil-fuel free bank but are reviewing their inclusion in the Big Bank Switch. Which? research shows that Virgin Money (bought by Nationwide in 2024) has some exposure to fossil fuels, through loans to field services that serve the oil and gas industry. We are engaging with Nationwide on this issue. If you are a customer of Nationwide and would like to write to them, please see the template message below.

Disclaimer: The Big Bank Switch campaign aims to help Christians explore climate action with their finances through their banking choices. It does not, however, involve the provision of financial advice. If you wish to receive advice, please consult a qualified and independent financial advisor.

I have a deep concern for our global and local community because of my faith, and so could no longer use a bank which didn’t also respect this, or caused intentional harm to others.
