ECCR has launched a new national programme called Money Makes Change. Money Makes Change is a programme and set of resources designed by ECCR to help Christians explore and make ethical choices around money.
The first resource to be launched as part of the programme is a small group resource, which offers an accessible conversation-based introduction to questions of money and faith. A handbook for facilitators, and accompanying handouts and worksheets, can be downloaded for free from ECCR’s website.
Further resources including Bible studies, creative all-age materials, and a resource for churches to take practical action will be released throughout 2020.
Janie Oliver, ECCR’s Executive Director, said “We want to open up conversations about how Christians spend, save and invest, and inspire action to create a fairer world through our finances. These conversations could happen at a PCC meeting, a church away day or simply over coffee after a service.”
The Rt Revd Michael Doe, Vice-Chair of ECCR’s Board, said: “Every decision we make can have an impact on our global neighbours and on the environment. As we go into 2020, we are increasingly aware of the urgent challenge of climate change, and the need to tackle issues like modern slavery, human rights abuses and inequality. We are called to steward the resources God has created, and therefore the choices we make around money – as individuals and churches – are an integral part of our discipleship and the church’s mission.”
Money Makes Change builds on ECCR’s work in recent years – specifically, a regional pilot project (Ethical Money Churches) and the Your Faith, Your Finance website that was launched in 2013 in partnership with Quaker Peace and Social Witness. Money Makes Change brings these two strands of work together with the aim of reaching a wider audience and inspiring deeper engagement and more practical action.
