Rosie Venner, JustMoney Movement’s Director of Movement Building, introduces the JustMoney prayer journey for Lent.
This Lent – the 40-day period when many Christians commit to prayer, fasting and self-examination – we are encouraging you to join a prayer journey, with a focus on aligning our finances with values of justice, peace and care for creation.
JustMoney Movement aims to help Christians connect faith and finance –to find ways to act more justly with our own money and to seek a more just use of money by banks, businesses and in the tax system. We can often shy away from reflecting on our relationship with money. We might put off examining our financial choices. But Jesus’ teachings call us to take seriously the role of money in our lives. How we think about money and possessions, and how we relate to others within the wider economy, are intricately linked with our relationship with God and how we live out our faith.
In a world where unjust financial systems are driving climate chaos, and where the actions of banks and businesses link us to harms caused to our global neighbours – will you take time this Lent to examine your own financial choices, and commit to praying and acting for a greener, fairer world?
Why take part in the Lent prayer journey?
The money in our bank accounts, investments and pensions is shaping the world around us. What do we know about our choice of bank or the businesses we buy from? By taking time to pray, reflect and act this Lent, you join a movement of people committed to taking more just and sustainable action with their finances.
This Lent prayer journey is for you if…
- You want to feel connected to a wider movement of Christians praying for a greener, fairer world.
- You are concerned about the climate crisis and other justice issues but have been struggling to make space to reflect on the impact of your own financial choices.
- You’ve made some changes to align your faith and your finances, but would like to pray and reflect on how you engage and encourage others to do the same.
