This summer, we’ve perhaps found ourselves with a little more time (or not!) to reflect. Here are a few of the things we’ve been reading or listening to recently, and some recommendations from our JustMoney Champions.
Podcast recommendations:
- The TaxCast: Tax Justice Network’s monthly podcast covering tax havens, financial secrecy and tax abuse.
- Macrodose: a weekly round-up of the most interesting economic stories.
- BibleProject series on Jesus’ teaching on money, episodes 26-29 of ‘Sermon on the Mount’ series.
- Reading Our Times, Theos podcast with Richard McNeill Douglas: exploring thinking around economic growth.
Books and articles:
- Just Living, Ruth Valerio: chapters 5 and 6 explore how Christians can use finances faithfully, develop a good attitude towards money and learn from principles described by Aristotle and Aquinas.
- The Ministry for the Future, Kim Stanley Robinson: speculative fiction about how the world might respond to an increasingly destructive climate.
- I spent a year undercover as a far-right activist. Here’s what I learned by Harry Shukman for The Big Issue: important insights about the far-right from someone who lived within it for a year.
- Earth Prayers: Encounters in Poetry with the Natural World, edited by Carol Ann Duffy: a beautiful collection of poems about the wonder and fragility of the natural world, including poems about birds, the climate crisis, riverside ambles and mountain adventures, from poets through the centuries.
Resources:
- Render unto Caesar: a new resource exploring perspectives on taxation from Catholic social thought and teaching.
- Season of Creation: a variety of resources for Creationtide (1 September – 4 October) to help you, your church and group explore the theme of Peace with Creation.
