Hate and division, too often distorted in the media, is causing harm. But in every community there are also stories of kindness, connection and hope – and they deserve to be seen and celebrated.
From 13–20 May, A Million Acts of Hope is inviting people across the UK to celebrate the everyday acts of kindness, care and connection that help us all flourish.
At JustMoney Movement, we believe money should be used in ways that help people and planet thrive. We campaign for a greener economy, fairer banking and a more just tax system. But change also happens close to home — through the choices we make, including where we spend money.
Too often, the money we spend flows to companies that prioritise profit above people and planet. But it doesn’t have to be this way.
All around us are businesses and organisations quietly building a different kind of economy:
- shops selling Fairtrade products, paying the Real Living Wage and going the extra mile for their local community
- businesses reducing waste, tackling exploitation in their supply chains and creating inclusive workplaces
- community projects helping people repair, reuse and share instead of throwing things away
Worker-owned co-ops, social enterprises, family-run corner shops, refill shops, repair cafés, charity shops, credit unions, B corps and independent local businesses – these are places of connection and care. They remind us that the economy is not just about profits and markets – it is about relationships, wellbeing and the kind of society we want to build together.
