Rosie’s Top 5

Rosie Venner, our National Programme Manager (and the newest member of our team), shares 5 reasons why she is excited about working for ECCR.  

1. We need to talk about money
   It might not feel easy, but Jesus didn’t shy away from speaking about it. His parables are full of references to wages, wealth, greed, poverty, generosity and hidden treasure. The money that we spend, save, invest or give away has the potential to harm and to do good. God calls us to love one another and care for the earth. Thinking through our decisions around money needs to be part of the answer. 
2. There is an urgent need for ECCR’s work
   The world is facing a climate emergency, there is huge global inequality and millions of people are trapped in modern slavery. It is vital that we understand the impact of our financial choices and use our collective power to encourage companies to behave in a fair and sustainable way. Our Money Makes Change programme is intended to spark conversation and action, and we hope you’ll want to get involved.    
3. We are not starting from scratch
   We are launching some new resources in 2020 but they are rooted in ECCR’s work over the last few years. Our Ethical Money Churches pilot projects in the South West and the West Midlands have led to deep and rich conversations around faith and money. We’ve learnt a lot about what inspires and challenges Christians to think through what they do with the resources they steward.  
4. We are part of a wider movement
   One of the joys of working for ECCR is discovering the amazing work of our partners and supporters. We plan to tell more of your stories over the coming months.   
5. Hope is springing up
   More and more people are interested in what their money is doing and whether it matches up with the issues they care about. A survey by Triodos found that 66% of investors would like their investments to support companies that contribute to making a more positive society and environment. Faith institutions are prayerfully and decisively moving their money away from fossil fuels. Let’s keep the momentum going.
