On Sunday 8 October, churches across the UK will be marking the very first Good Money Sunday, a new initiative from JustMoney Movement that calls on Christians to make financial choices that benefit people and planet.
JustMoney Movement is launching Good Money Sunday to equip more Christians and local churches to join the dots between their faith and their financial choices and make a positive impact on society and the environment.
Simeon Mitchell, JustMoney Movement trustee and Team Leader at the Joint Public Issues Team, shares this prayer and reflection for Good Money Sunday.
Help us to see the world with your eyes
and imagine a future where none go hungry,
all who labour receive fair reward,
and the earth is renewed.
Give us the courage to question our assumptions
about how things have to be
and use our voices, our resources and our actions
to work towards a just economy that enables the flourishing of all life.
And so may your Kingdom come.
You can view a video version of this prayer on our YouTube here.
Wherever you are this Good Money Sunday (8 October), could you pause and pray with us?
This short reflective activity could be used alone or with your congregation:
Invite people to get out their purse or wallet and look through the contents.
- What do they say about what’s important to you?
- What do they say about what you value?
Jesus says: “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21). Jesus also says: “I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)
Spend a few minutes in quiet prayer, bringing before God the things which you are grateful for, anything that troubles you, and anything you might want to change. Ask God for what you need.
